Description
San Antonio Founders Day is a FREE event. An assemblage of organizations, institutions and individuals dedicated to honoring the heritage of San Antonio.
Event Details
This year, San Antonio Founders Day will feature a memorable and entertaining ceremony in San Pedro Springs Park on Saturday, October 20, 10 am - 4:30pm, It will be a casual picnic-in-the park occasion for San Antonians of every age, and festivities for everyone. The park carries memories of historic political rallies where orators like Sam Houston emoted, and where hundreds of German families gathered, beginning in the mid-1800s, for picnics and music and gymnastics.
The event is hosted by Sonny Melendrez, and features local singers, speakers, performers. Exhibitors line up in San Pedro Park and share the many cultures, memories, and historical facts of San Antonio. A childrens area "Explorers Hide-Away" is where children can go to learn new arts and crafts, or travel their own journey with a "Passaporte" (Sponsored by The San Antonio Consrvation Society) Food Trucks will be available in the Park.
The annual celebration of our beginnings will be a time to recall cherished memories and favorite stories of the people who made ours a city of fiestas, parades, and rodeos, of sports heroes and mariachis, of the Alamo, the River Walk, Spanish missions and plazas – a city of the heart, of the arts, and of food, fun and fond memories.
Magically, San Antonio remains unavoidably visible as it casts its spell on the eyes and hearts of all who visit or stay. It is “a city of the mind,” a city of the memory. So let’s recall fond memories of our exciting and productive past. Let’s go back to memories of our city’s earlier days and celebrate the good things and good people we want to keep alive in our hearts and minds. Let’s celebrate San Antonio Founders Day on Saturday, October 20, 2018!
Everyone is welcome to this Free event and encouraged to join the celebration of local history and culture!
