Rudolph and Adelfa Quinones initially opened Jacala in 1949. Rudolph began making the first "puffy tacos". While some will assert the "first puffy taco", it's creation has a place with Jacala. The first location was on Wilson and only seated 16 people, but after a few months of business, Adel's brother Jimmy wanted them to open a restaurant and let him run it so They opened this location and the dream happened. In the next couple of years eight restaurants were opened. Rudolph and Adel decided to keep only one restaurant open and expand into three dining rooms, an indoor patio, and also an outdoor courtyard. It is the oldest originally owned Mexican restaurant in San Antoni and you will always find at least one member of the family's four generations around. Thanks to you, our loyal customers who are now bringing their second and third generations in, and to our new customers who are just beginning to build the same memories.
