The River Walk in San Antonio Texas is a favorite location for visitors, but locals love it too. If you want to shop 'til you drop on the Riverwalk in San Antonio Texas, you're in luck. The Rivercenter Mall is just steps away, and there are many other little shops tucked in among the restaurants and clubs. The mall includes retailers like Dillard's, Victoria's Secret, the Gap, and many more merchants. The River Walk San Antonio has a long history in the city. Construction on the diversion canals that help make up the River Walk began as early as 1941, and the first restaurant opened for business along the walk in 1946 (and it's still open today). Building and commerce really built up in the 1960s, and the Riverwalk District was formed to plan retail and other activity in the area. Since then, the area has become the premier tourist destination in San Antonio, with river boat tours, helicopter tours, museums, galleries, and hot nightlife.
