Description
Named after the 19th-century American novelist.
Navarro opened in February 1886 as School #8, and was named after the Texas patriot in May 1902. In the 1930s Navarro was the largest elementary school in the SAISD but by 1975 was closed due to declining enrollment. The campus was remodeled in 1988 and between then until 2002 was the Navarro Achievement Center, an alternative campus where middle and high school students were transferred from their regular school sites because of behavioral problems. In 2002 the name was changed to the Navarro Academy when joined by the Adelante Academy. Frequently Asked Questions
