This class is designed to help you develop the skills and techniques needed to create a stand-up comedy set.

Stand-Up Comedy - Level 1: Tight Five
Learn the basics of stand-up comedy in a structured class setting, as we go over structure, stage presence, and some tried and true comedy tricks that will help you become a more polished performer. Workshop your ideas, onstage, weekly, with instant feedback, create an industry "tight 5", and discover the inside scoop on getting booked at clubs & venues. Plus, enjoy drop-ins from working comics and local bookers as you prepare for a graduation performance at Bexar Stage!
Class is 3 hours, 7-10pm every Monday for 8 weeks (class ends July 30). No previous stand-up experience is necessary.

This class will be taught by Big Al Gonzales:
Winner of Funniest In South Texas 2018, Big Al Gonzales has been performing for over a decade. He has written and performed on television and has worked with some of the biggest names in comedy. Al has also worked behind the scenes as a manager at Inside Jokes in Hollywood, as well as producing shows at The Comedy Store, Improv and the legendary Purple Onion. He was nominated for an Irene Ryan Award for best actor in a musical or comedy for his performance in "Hot Tamale/ Tamale Caliente" and in 2002, his improv team, Big City Improv was voted "Best Of The Bay". He has performed in SF Sketchfest, Luminaria, and has been featured on the storytelling show, "Worth Repeating", for Texas Public Radio.
