Event Details

U.S. EPA Headquarters, U.S. EPA Region 6, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Texas Section American Water Works Association are hosting a Community-Based Water Resiliency (CBWR) workshop on January 15, 2020 at the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), 2800 US HWY 281 N, San Antonio, TX 78212. CBWR assists drinking water and wastewater utilities, and the communities they serve, in increasing resiliency to water interruptions from all hazards.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Drinking water and wastewater utilities, state primacy agency representatives, first responders, healthcare and public health sector representatives.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

Promote a better understanding of public-private sector interdependencies.
Foster a greater understanding of water infrastructure and the potential impacts from a loss of service.
Identify actions and resources needed to respond to and recover from a water emergency.
Assist stakeholders in building strong response plans for water service interruptions.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

The workshop will provide an overview of local water utilities and their operations. Speakers from interdependent sectors will talk about their reliance on water and their emergency plans if water services go down. In addition, a tabletop exercise focused on a natural disaster scenario will give all participants a chance to discuss their plans and preparations for sustained operations in the face of extended water outages.

If you have questions about the workshop please contact Chrissy Dangel of the U.S. EPA at 513-569-7821 or dangel.chrissy@epa.gov.
